EZDIGIMAGIC™ PROVIDES TIPS TO HELP PHOTOGAPHERS PROTECT AND SAFEGUARD DIGITAL IMAGES

Tips on Safeguarding Digital Images

-- With summer upon us, it always seems like there’s more opportunity for picture-
taking. To help ensure photo enthusiasts preserve these memories, the makers of
EZDigiMagic™ stand-alone memory card-to-DVD burners asked their technical support staff to share some tips for safely storing and managing your digital images.

The technicians’ top five recommendations are:

1. Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket – Rather than using one extremely large-capacity memory card, consider spreading your images over several smaller-capacity cards. This way, if your card is lost or experiences any failure, you won’t lose all your photos.

2. Back Up Your Images Frequently – It’s smart to regularly save your images in additional storage locations other than the memory card (i.e. a HDD, on-line storage, CD or DVD discs). But, don’t wait until your memory card is completely full—make it a habit to save the images after every photo shoot, or at the end of each day. Again, this helps in preventing a catastrophic loss should something happen to your memory card.

3. Make Sure One Copy of Your Photos is Backed Up to a CD or DVD Disc - Optical discs are very durable and easy to label and store. With regard to shock(being dropped) and vibration, they are less fragile than using a hard drive or USB drive. CD’s and DVD’s should be kept out of extreme heat and light, however. These elements can warp a disc and corrupt data.

4. Use Good Quality CD/DVD Discs – The few cents per disc savings is not worth the potential risk. With bargain and low-cost media, the possibility of experiencing inconsistent disc quality and disc failures is greater.

5. Reformat Your Memory Card After Each Download – Every time images are moved off your card, it’s a good idea to reformat the card while it’s in your camera. By “wiping it clean” in this way, you reduce the potential for developing file system errors and file fragmentation that can corrupt images and slow down the card speed.

Following these helpful hints will help protect those special photos(and memories), while also
making it easier to share and manage your digital images. For more information on portable
